I see so many people—family, friends, and others—spending on vacations, cigarettes, car washes, and $100 movie nights, but when it comes to preparing for an emergency, it’s like the thought doesn’t cross their minds.
Being prepared isn’t about living in fear...it’s about being responsible and taking care of your future. Emergencies can hit when you least expect it... natural disasters, global or national financial downturns, or even something as individual as a job loss. It takes a small investment to build an emergency fund, stock up on essentials, and have a plan in place.
If you can spend on luxuries, why not spend on peace of mind? Your future self, and your family, will thank you for it.
Prioritize your safety. You never know when you'll need it.
It’s time to get serious about being prepared, friends.
I see so many people, family, friends, and others, spending on vacations, cigarettes, car washes, and $100 movie nights. But when it comes to investing in an emergency, it's overlooked.
As a Christian, I believe we are called to be responsible stewards, not just of our finances, but also of the well-being of our families. 1 Timothy 5:8 says, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” That’s a powerful reminder that we have a responsibility to take care of our own.
Emergencies can happen at any time, natural disasters, financial struggles, or sudden health issues. Preparing isn't about living in fear, it’s about being wise and ready.
Here are some basics every household should consider:
Emergency funds – Even a small savings can help in a crisis.
Non-perishable food & water – Stock enough for at least a few weeks.
First aid supplies – Make sure your kit is well-stocked.
Backup power – Batteries, generators, or solar chargers for essential devices.
Personal defense – Ensure your family’s safety with the proper tools.Communication plans – Know how to reach each other when phones go down.
Clothing & blankets – For warmth in case of power outages.Important documents – Have copies stored safely and accessible.
You've probably already got some 9f these items, which is great! But if we can spend on luxuries, why not on protecting what matters most? Taking small steps now can bring peace of mind when you need it most.
Let's be wise, prepared, and faithful to our calling to care for our households.
